Author Testimonials

5 stars. Fiona's thoroughness and thoughtfulness shone brightly throughout her critique. At every stage of evaluation, she brought professionalism and insight. While she was without question disturbed by some of the content (and there is much to be disturbed by), her willingness to forge ahead revealed a level of strong commitment to the work. As an author, I felt validated and inspired. Fiona's criticisms, in my estimation, were fair and exacting. She was kind in her positive evaluation. She was generous in her comments on my writing style and the character arcs. I have every confidence to recommend Fiona as an outstanding beta reader that others will greatly benefit from.

—Brian Douglas, author of They Flutter Behind You

5 stars. Max's extremely useful feedback was thorough—he read my novel twice to ensure a comprehensive sense of it—and carefully considered. He brought his broad knowledge of European cultural history to bear when commenting about my historical novel. He gets extra points for providing corrections to certain French phrases where I needed that help. His insights were honest and friendly.
—JA Nelson, author of The Confession of Horatio the Dane

5 stars. The reader was thorough and her insights into how to improve my novel were invaluable. Excellent job! It’s rare that a service exceeds expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised!

5 stars. This is my first book, and I was skeptical to hire a beta reader because I thought I had a good idea of what critiques anyone might have. Instead, Anne-Marie found issues that I hadn't even thought about. I especially appreciated her notes on one of my secondary character's dialogue. I'm currently writing a second follow-up book in which she is the protagonist, and Anne-Marie's comments actually helped me flesh out the character more. After being exasperated with attempts to find beta readers online, I loved knowing that there was a deadline and more structured notes from someone who does this often. It was definitely money well spent, and I will probably use the service again.

5 stars. Diane was very thorough, providing quality feedback that I found IMMENSELY helpful. She gave praise where it was warranted and her constructive criticism included clear explanations and examples that helped me improve the story where it was needed. I could tell she took the time to carefully consider her responses and I was confident I could trust her suggestions.
—Emily Nealis, author of A Life Well-Hidden

5 stars. Jennifer was my fourth beta reader and by far the best! She is a fantastic addition to the Quiethouse Editing team! I'm was very impressed with the amount of work and detail she put into the report. Wow and thank you! She gave great feedback on how to develop the main character and make him more likeable, which is what I really needed. She did a great job of criticizing without being condescending, and she was brutally honest when she had to be. Finally, her law degree and background were a great extra and unexpected bonus for the court room scenes.

5 stars. Fiona's feedback was thoughtful, engaged, and showed that she understood my book's story arc and the characters. I enjoyed her manuscript margin comments because of their useful connection to her thorough questionnaire responses and because her personable notes made me feel that we were in the same room and I was able to hear her react to the story—where she enjoyed it and where certain aspects gave her pause and why. Also, I very much appreciate that her response to a follow-up question was timely, detailed, and deeply considered.
—J.A. Nelson, author of The Confession of Horatio the Dane

5 stars. Nikki has provided me with superb feedback for my novel. She pointed out areas where improvement could be made and noted segments that she especially liked. As a beta reader these are the types of feedback I expected, yet her comments were more clearly stated and much easier to understand. What really surprised me and made me ecstatic was the over-the-top comprehensive analysis that was done of the entire manuscript's attributes. I have never received a summary report as complete as what she provided. I will definitely return to Quiethouse Editing for Nikki M.'s services.

5 stars. Heidi's review was as thoughtful and meticulous as a review can be. She highlighted what she thought worked and put critical thought into areas I could explore that would add depth and pace. She cited numerous passages to evidence her points, which made it easy to understand and agree with her. She wasn't afraid to be candid with regard to passages that didn't work, and I'm grateful that she identified several blind spots I had as a writer. I would recommend her to anyone.

5 stars. Jessica is truly a great find. Her deep insights strengthen a writer's focus on fixing issues in their manuscript that many industry professionals would simply overlook (until it’s too late). Her words are honest, yet always encouraging. I think at the end of the day you can’t afford not to use her. You would simply be doing yourself and your readers a disservice.
—Daniel Hunter, author

Helen was awesome! Her insight was invaluable. Her analysis of the major and minor characters was precise. Helen provided alternative suggestions where even I had doubts. She provided formatting examples to remedy scenes which were too long or too short. She offered choices to enhance the prospective readers’ experience. She pointed out moments where my transition between chapters and scenes were weak and needed to be tweaked. Helen noted specific situations where my writing was not fully grounded in setting, time, and place. Her critical eye and experience as a reader will definitely save me some negative reviews. Helen was a great asset in fine tuning Mercy’s First Semester. She is a highly recommendable gem at Quiethouse.
—WM Bunche, author of Mercy's First Semester

5 stars. Nick is a rare find. Knowing he was outside my target audience, I was a little apprehensive on what to expect from his feedback — but I shouldn't have been. Nick detailed suggested words changes, typos, some grammatical errors, and also provided detailed feedback on each section and character of my manuscript. I loved that he was so honest. His feedback told me the questions he asked himself as he read, his thoughts on the characters' desires, and also the overall impression of the manuscript. He reads, offers you suggestions on the finer points, and then takes a step back to assess what he thinks the author was trying to achieve when writing. As long a Nick is willing, I'll be seeking him out to read each one of the manuscripts in the future.
